Sunday Pulse Check W/7328

Sundays aren’t for you. I know, it sounds harsh…

If you grew up in a Christian family or environment, then Sunday’s were a high point of the week. A chance to break free from the status quo, or unresolved realities and reconnect with Jesus. And for some of us, Sundays were just another day off. Maybe a chance for a little more relaxation, sleep and escape before the daunting arrival of Monday once again.

And wherever you fall in the chasm of how Sundays looked for you, the goodness of God demands that in the here and now we accept that Sunday was never for us. It was for Him. It was the intimate claim and clear priority that we would end and start our week with the exaltation of Jesus. No matter what went down, no matter the failings we experienced or the circumstances that came about…Sunday was the moment where you admitted to God that He was God, and you were not - and therefore could always do a hard reset within the waves of His mercy and grace.

How does Sunday land for you today? Are you comfortable with drawing near to the presence of God, or is there a sudden but ever real hesitation when you consider approaching Him?

It’s a question God gives us the freedom and compassion to ask, and always reevaluate. Simply because He gets us. He knows what’s heavy on our hearts and minds. He understands the way schedules and busy routines battle for our affections and attention. And the comfort this should offer you should be absolutely life changing…

Because it means you have no need to hide your face from the affections of your King.

It means you can be honest with Jesus about what’s going on right now in life. It means you are invited to have an honest conversation with God about what Sundays have and could and will look like for you moving forward.

Behind all the theology of worship and purpose and salvation is merely a God who desires to connect with you, and who welcomes your honesty and realness with Him. Who promises to work and transform the desires of your heart. And to lead you to the ultimate resting place, which is Heaven.

Sundays weren’t you for you and they aren’t for striving. They are for God and they are for the ultimate collision of our pride and shame with His supremacy and forgiveness.

Be brave. God loves you. And He can change everything.
