February Review…
As we look at wrapping up February and waltzing right into the third month of 2026, my question for all of us would be “What was your favorite thing or notable attribute about Jesus this month.” I’ll go ahead and answer for myself as you consider how this question falls on or settles in your own heart.
February for me was incredibly sobering. I was awakened through quite real realities and difficult circumstances and through a broad range of areas in my life – that I am absolutely nothing without Jesus. My resilience without Him is dead on arrival. And as a seasoned Christian who has had multiple experiences with God, that’s saying something. This month was a cold reset, in a way, to the kindness and gentle pursuit of God regardless of where the heart of His child might be…And honestly, that’s just a very clear reminder of my pride. We all, no matter where we are on our journey with Jesus carry a god complex that seeks to compete either with His will, or His glory. The more seasoned we are to His grace and mercy, the more blindsided and rigged we can be regarding our pride at times.
The attribute or quality of God I saw shine through my month of February was one of intense devotion and willing discipline towards me due to the state of my protected pride. A God who was willing to let me run back to what He and I both knew hurts me. And yet, a God who was willing to have the conversation of repentance, forgiveness and a fresh renewal of His promise of sanctification in me. Perhaps the gospel experience is not accolades of constant victory, but a walk of learning what it means to fall into the reckless kindness of a God who does not demand our performance but only asks for our intentionality. Not that we might make light of sin and turn down the invitation for a progression towards holiness, but that in the journey we might not lose sight of the reason we needed the gospel in the first place…
Pride can only be addressed when we make much of God, or through our suffering He makes much of Himself whether we were on board on not! See that’s the bargain of grace. Grace can transform our minds and motives and recalculate what we worship and aspire to follow. But the impact of glory is always promised. Sinner or saint, God will be glorified and His name will be famous. But if we are willing and courageous enough to accept the gift of Jesus, we can be a part of the story. Not in an effort to compete with the supremacy of God, but in a decision to submit to it. And through the obedience of submission, His power is indeed made perfect in our weakness. Our greatest moments of boast in Jesus will not be through our own grit and strength to obtain victory, but through our own sin and misstep to fully immerse ourselves in the heartbeats of His compassion and pursuit.
March is a new moment. Not forgetting what February was supposed to mean to each of us, we tread forward not with reluctance and weary sprits, but with eager anticipation of what God has for us ahead. Trusting that He is big enough for all our worries, in love with us enough for all our wants, and to invested in us to leave us where He found us.
